Hidden Hanover Hotel ~ worth the stay! Jun 02, 2008
The Hanover Hotel in Edinburgh is tucked away in a small alley behind Princes Street, but still a great location. We arrived to Edinburgh by train, and the hotel was within 2 blocks walking distance from the train depot. It's right behind the very busy Princes Street, so away from the traffic but near all the major shopping. Along the alley is several pubs, an internet cafe, chain restaurants, and a market. If you walk directly forward from the hotel, in less than 10 minutes you'll be at the Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile.
During our stay here, we never once took a taxi or needed to rent a car. Everything we needed was within walking distance. The room was quite large and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was the largest of any we had seen during our entire vacation in the UK! We were almost giddy with pleasure when we saw that! The television only received 4 channels, but at least it gave a little variety compared to other places we had stayed. The staff was very pleasant and accomodating, and the hotel had a workout room (for those not getting enough exercise from all the walking). I would definitely stay here again. decent city centre hotel, Edinburgh Mar 20, 2008
The hanover hotel is situated right in the heart of Edinburgh, within a couple minutes walk of vertually everything, all the main tourist attractions, train and bus stations, and bars and restaurants, shops are all on the doorstep. Considering that the prices for easter weekend were so much cheaper than anywhere else for some distance around(even worked out cheaper than some hostels for 2 people booked through laterooms.com), and that they still had rooms available i was wondering what kind of standard the rooms would be, especially given its great location. I was pleasantly suprised to find that it was exactly as you'd expect to find in any standard chain hotels, i.e. travelodge, ibis, holiday in etc. There is a restaurant and bar attached to the hotel, but i didn't use any of these as there is so much choice within a short walk. The only downside is that there is no onsite parking with it being so central, so it's probably best to use the St Johns shopping centre ncp which is a 5 minute walk from the hotel. would recomend this hotel if your staying in Edinburgh and just want somewhere safe, cheap and with great location
