My trip to Vietnam and China...passing by Hong Kong.
Landing in Hanoi Vietnam and enjoying the Vietnamese food and the historical buildings of the capital.Meeting the friendly Vietnamese people, drinking the Tiger beer, and riding scooters with them! Then visiting the "Turtle temple" where a giant turtle is kept embalmed and daily met by visitors like a real saint!
On my way to ZhuHai by ferry, the nearest part of China from the Hong Kong territories i spent one night in the crazy Hong Kong!

Arrived back in Hanoi, found a hotel that appeared nice at first, but the following morning showed its true colors. Didn't have much time, so headed for Cha Ca - a grilled fish speciality, that was pretty fine. A man, who will be left unidentified, was handing out flyers for a free beer…

The 15th started off perfectly. We spent the morning on a 6 hour cruise in Halong Bay which is in the Gulf of Tonkin in the South China Sea. We then took a coach back to Hanoi for dinner and eventually on to the railway station to board the overnight train. Although it goes to Ho Chi Minh City we w…

2007 four-week vacation to explore a part of the world that I've dreamed about visiting since I was a child. More importantly, it's the first trip that I had to entirely finance on my own - I feel like such an old person!

Lots of motorbikes now! It's a key difference from my last extended visit in 1995. Perplexingly, though, one thing that has not changed is the utter lack of traffic management systems at street intersections. As when bicycles ruled the roost, now all manner of motorized machines (…

Mount Yên Tử is about 130km from Hanoi. It is only 1km tall but is foggy and cloud covered most of the year, with view of most Eastern North Vietnam, including Halong bay. The little temple on top of the mountain, worshiped by thousands of Vietnamese buddists, is believed to be the B…

Today we are leaving Hanoi on the overnight train to Hué. We weren't leaving until about 7.30pm so we had the whole day to do and see any last minute things in Hanoi. I put my bags in the day room then met the group down stairs for lunch at KOTOs which stands for "Know One, Teach One". This …
