After sleeping really well, with the aid of some tiger beer, it's a 6:30AM start for us, but it's an absolutely stunning day, and that's the sort of thing you don't want to miss when in Vietnam for the wet season! People randomly get up at differing times, and we have some jam and eggs for breakfast, whilst cruising along the bay, along to Cat Ba Island, where it is possible to do another night and extend the trip. Already having booked our flight to Vientiane for tomorrow, we couldn't do it,…

I arrived in Hanoi the night of Tuesday, July 27. My plan was to take the night train that night to Danang in central Vietnam, and then to catch a bus the next afternoon to Hoi An, which I had heard was a charming little town with a nice beach and great tailor shops. In Vietnam, however, you can’t buy a train ticket from anywhere other than the station you’re leaving from, so by the time I got to the train station all the sleeper cars were sold out. They were sold …

Today we finally arrived in our last destination on our bus in Vietnam. Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam. We arrived by bus from Hue around 8am. We got dropped off in a strange location, some random place where they told all the foreigners to wait for a taxi to take us into town. Then we were separated off into different taxis, Steve and I were the last ones so we got our own taxi with this guy who was with the bus company and he chatted with us as he took us to his hotel…

I was in a charming little town in Vietnam called Hoi An. Ok so charming is way over used to describe small towns by people who stay there for only three days, but Hoi An truly is a unique place, mostly for the custom made clothing! Now, I didn't have any clothes made while I was there but did spend three days there with my "old" friends James and Ami and our new traveling companion Brad, whom James and Ami met on the bus on the way up from Nha Trang, where the legend that is Jim had left our…

Our night flight from Vientiane to Hanoi was supposed to take less than one hour but it ended up taking much longer. The tropical storm brewing over Hanoi was causing havoc with air traffic in and out of the airport. As we sat on board the Vietnamese Airlines Airbus we began our descent into the airport, the nighttime approach hindered by dismal visibility caused by the low altitude cloud outside. Down we went but the first approach was aborted by the flight crew at the last second, the plane…

after 15 hours of bus ride from Yangshuo, China, i arrived in Hanoi. it is just as crowded as China but now everyone is on mopeds and the streets are only half as wide.
Ha Long Bay was not quite impressive as I imagined, even though the locals are voting it to be the 8th natural wonder of the world. even though the limestone pinnacles in the bay are nice to look at, there really wasn't any award winning Kodak moments :). there was no "junk" sail boats in sight even t…

This is our last day in Vietnam and now time to head north to China. Our 1st destination is Guilin where we will meet two friends on holiday from the UK. We spend the last day in Hanoi sorting out odds and ends such as posting gifts back to Oz, exchanging books and buying a guide book for China.

Last night’s part of the crossing was okay as border crossings go (I hear). We had deliberately chose a crossing that was commonly used (i.e. not new) and although it required a 24 hr journey, it seemed the safest bet. I read till about midnight and hoped to get a good night’s sleep through to the border arrival at about 7.30am. The bus was probably the dirtiest we’ve been on, and not being a sleeper bus it was pretty hard finding a comfortable way to sleep. The seats were narrow …

Well the time has come, to write this WELL deserved journal entry.**
Please note, these views below shared by many others, in fact 95% of
all the backpackers, and independent travellers I've met have all told
me this, before I shared with them my stories!"VIETNAM IS A
BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY, HAS AMAZING SCENERY, BUT THE PEOPLE ARE THE MOST
HOSTILE, AGRESSIVE, RUDE, UNFRIENDLY PEOPLE EVER"As I returned
from Sapa mountains, in northern Vietnam, I was involved in a major
scam, and pretty much …
