I was not in control of booking our accommodation for our recent trip to York, however, I was not left disappointed with the Hampton. The booking was made over the internet and we got a good deal - one night in a twin room with breakfast included was £104 for the night. Quite reasonable given that York is quite an expensive city to visit.

The hotel is ideally located within the city walls an approximate 5 minute walk from the train station and around 10-15 minutes to the city centre. We were aware that the hotel did not have an on site car park, but use of the NCP car park 5 minutes down the road is available for short/long stays.

Given that we arrived a little after 11.15am we were prepared not to be able to check in, as check in time is 2pm. However, when we asked if there was somewhere we could drop our bags, she advised that our room was ready. We confirmed with her about the parking facilities, however, and rather annoyingly she did not inform us that if we got our NCP car parking ticket validated at reception we would be entitled to a discount on the parking (something we only found our when leaving the car park the next day and a fellow guest commented on their savings just as we'd paid £20 for 24 hrs parking.) If we'd have known about this prior to leaving reception parking would have only cost us £12.60 - so rather disappointed with this lack of information to say the least.

Our room was on the second floor overlooking the main road and opposite a nightclub, however, we did not encounter any traffic noise or rowdiness during the night (due to the window glazing) - the room was of good size for a twin, with tea/coffee making facilities, television, a desk and chair with a good sized mirror, however, wardrobe space was a little on the small side, ironing board and iron were a useful touch, free Wi-Fi.

The bathroom was exceptionally clean with good quality towels. There was only shower facilities, however, the shower was very powerful and there was also complimentary soap, shampoo and moisturizer available - however, they were large dispensers on the walls rather than small individual products.

The breakfast the following morning was amazing - I have never seen so much choice. Obviously there was a typical full English, bacon, egg, sausage, beans, tomatoes, mushrooms etc, a good choice of cereals, porridge, yoghurt, fresh fruit, bread, croissants, pain au chocolate, bagels, muffins, a waffle maker (which proved very popular) various fruit juices, tea and coffee. The seating area was quite small but we headed down around 9.30am which was towards the end of service, (breakfast is served 6am - 10am Mon - Friday and 7am - 11am at weekends and Bank Holidays.

All in all a good hotel, in an ideal location - just remember to get your NCP parking ticket validated at reception (our only real complaint)
Not my pic I'm afraid - twin room

I wouldn't have minded if we hadn't specifically questioned the receptionist about the parking facilities, but hey ho one of those things I suppose!

It is frustrating when a hotel staff don't inform the guests about important information. :(
