Hampton Inn Madison Square Garden New York Reviews
Great location in Manhattan Oct 05, 2009
### Location & Transportation ###
This hotel is perfectly located for sightseeing and directly at the Madison Square Garden. If you arrive by train you can leave at New York Penn Station, as we did. The Metro isn’t far away aswell, you can walk three minutes in north direction to 34th Street or three minutes in the south direction and take the metro from 28th Street.
If you are good by foot you can reach lots of major points of interest without using the metro (better anyway, cause you just see more interesting things). Its just a 15-Minute-Walk to Times Square and another 20 minutes to Central Park. For the major sightseeing spots in the south you should take the metro though, cause it’s a little far away. For example when you want to go to Staten Island Ferry, Ground Zero or Trinity Church you can take line 1 or 2, or when you want to go to Chinatown and Little Italy you would take line “D”. Everything is reachable very quick without any transfers.
In the near area you’ll find lots of restaurants, Dunkin Donuts, some bars and so on. The NY Public Library and Museum of S*x aren’t far away either.
If you walk an approx. half hour in east or west direction you’ll reach either Hudson or East-River which provides a nice panorama.
### Rooms ###
Our room was somewhere at the top and quite big, we didn’t expect it to be actually. When we looked out of the window we could directly look into the offices of a company :) The bed was good and everything was clean. We had a safe on our room but no internet (but terminals in the lobby). It also had a flatscreen and minibar for sure. You can not open the windows but surely have air-condition. Although the windows were closed you could hear police and honking cars but well – that’s New York ;-)
### Service ###
The reception is good and in the lobby you find free internet terminals. But if you are a Facebook Junkie or something, you'll be disappointed cause Social Networks were blocked as many other normal sites. The personnel at the reception was friendly and helpful. When we had to go to the airport the last day they even tried to get a stretch-limousine for us, lol. Every two or three days theres a guy especially for sightseeing. He helps you on your trips and gives tipps and hints for free. You can also book different things over him, but if you just ask for support, he’ll assist you.
### Restaurant ###
We were only there for breakfast, which was much better than in Florida’s hotels. They had a good mix of different things, warm and cold. Not only Apple, Bagel and Philadelphia Chesse. :) The hotel was very busy overall, so also the restaurant was. Lots of people everywhere but it was still okay. They also had a flatscreen there with news.
Overall this is a great place to stay. We payed 200€ per night (not per person, per room), which isn’t the cheapest but in this category and that good location it was even the cheapest and worth it’s price.
