Hampstead Heath Sep 22, 2012
Hampstead Heath is a large park in North London, with great views across the city.

The park is beautiful, and it’s great to get some fresh air and space in London. One of the most famous attractions on Hampstead Heath is its series of outdoor swimming ponds, although there is also a more formal lido (outdoor pool) too. Parliament Hill (Kite Hill) is an area of high ground with a lovely breeze, lots of kites and a fantastic view across London, including views to the tower on Olympic Park, Canary Wharf, the towers of central London and St Pauls. There is a lot of wildlife in the heath too, and it’s a great place to go for a walk. There are sports facilities available for a charge.

Admittedly, it is a little way out of central, tourist London, but it isn’t far on the tube. The park is a really nice place to go when you need to get out of the rush of the city. Entrance is free. There are a range of paths and tracks, some of which would be fine with a pram or something like that. Hampstead itself is a nice place to visit. Although part of London, it is one of the old villages that got swallowed up and has a different feel to most of the city. There are lots of fine houses on tiny lanes up hills, and it’s full of little cafes and kitchen ware shops and things like that.

Hampstead Heath is a must see on a visit to London. I would suggest going on a Sunday because it is full of life with people flying kites on Parliament Hill. Here you will be able to take amazing photos of the City of London panoramic style. You can also visit Kenwood House. However, I much prefer finishing off the long walk around the Heath at one of the many pubs in Hampstead or Highgate depending on your start and finish line!
