The Waterland hotel is about 25 minutes by bus out of Amsterdam center, in Purmerend. Bus stop is only a couple mins walk from the hotel entrance, but when you get off the bus the first time, ask the driver which way to go because its behind some buildings and not very well signed. at the time I was travelling (christmas 2007) the cheapest options in A'dam was from 65 euros and up for a 2* hotel. Waterland claimed to be a 4* hotel and I paid 55 euros a night. I've forgot how much the bustickets was, but i know it was less than 10 euros for two ppl, making Waterland the cheapest option available. It is a quiet place with pretty surrounding golf courses, and the room was clean and of good standard. The only issue we had was the bed.. the double bed was two single beds stuck together, and they did not STICK together. if you are a couple that like to use beds for more than sleeping, I recommend looking for something else.. The linens also seemed cheap for a claimed 4* establishment, they were rough and we both ended up with "carpet burns" even though we did not do all that much to deserve them (because then the beds would slide apart!! *sigh*). Only sampled the food at a lunch, I am slightly picky about and have to say we got much better food for a lower cost in town, but the menu was varied and tasted OK. we did not have breakfast as it was not included in the price. We had some snacks stored in the fridge and ate the rest of our meals in town.
all in all would reccomend this place for its good value (if you can find dates with the same price as i paid.. I don't think i would pay more than 55 euros unless you are a golfer), but personally would not go there again due to the issues with our bed(s).
