Hammamet Garden Resort & Spa Dec 17, 2016
Hammamet Garden Resort & Spa probably used to be a good hotel, but lack of maintenance shows lots of decay. Weather prognoses said that it will rain for next few days in Tunisia, so I strategically tried to find the place close to Tunis from where I can easily get to the airport and leave in couple days.

I could not believe when I saw that few four stars hotels are at 20$ or less with breakfast buffet and bells and whistles… SIGN ME UP !!! Please !

So I got into this Garden Resort, but of course there is a catch. It WAS four star hotel long time ago, and now is falling apart dinosaur. Yes, you can see that it was well designed and made for you to enjoy, but maintenance is the one of the things you need to do in order to keep everything running right.

GOOD THINGS:

It is not fair to be negative and undermining when I paid 17e for my own double bed room with the buffet breakfast, so the good things are,

- It is between Hammamet town and Yasmine Hammamet, kind of easy to get to by taxi from Lounge station (around 2.5 dinars) or train station (around 4 dinars)

- It was almost empty. Imagine 300-400 rooms hotel and I was 10% of the occupancy. Love it.

- Great breakfast, warm, cold, good coffee, fresh juices, fruits… plentiful, tasty and huge variety. Open from 6:30-10 am

- Skeleton Crew but majority of the staff is happy, smiley and enjoyable to talk to.

- Three pools, two outside and one inside warmed up which is kind of important during December

- They have spa with alright prices

- View from my 3rd floor room was great, especially for the sunrise.

- Beach is not too far, just get out of the hostel and walk towards the sea… in 400m you’ll get there.

BAD THINGS:

- It was raining a bit one day, and the consequence was that more than few ceiling places around hotel were leaking like waterfalls

- All hallways are missing lights, they are a bit dirty, paint peeling, fixtures broken. Its kind of they had a spring break party just couple days ago.

- Internet is so bad, I cant even talk about it. And you can get in only around the reception and bar area.

- My room feature fixtures that were falling apart, old TV with antenna that had 6 channels in different languages so I could practice my Russian or German… Water from the faucet was spraying all over so I could not use it, bathtub was broken here and there, three lights in the room were permanently broken, and air conditioner was almost impossible to control (luckily there was some warm air coming out of it during the night).

- Spa and pool area smells on mold to the point of super unhealthy. Hammam is alright, but probably because it is steaming hot all the time.

I have been to hostels that are worst than this hotel, so value is very good if you don’t have expectations about the stars. Lets say that this is the two star hotel with some more amenities.
