Hamburg City Tour Reviews
Good tour... if you speak German Sep 25, 2008
Your 15 Euro ticket buys you a 2 hour city tour on the blue and yellow double decker bus. The tour passes along many of the famous sites of Hamburg including the Hotel Atlantic and the Reeperbahn. The guide pointed out the sites to those who spoke English but that was all that we got. We took the tour with a local who spoke German and she had to fill us in on everything that the guide was not translating. For example, we hear "Hamburg has a lot of trees." She tells in German that for every person there are two trees and talks a little bit about the greening of the city. In English we get "This is where the rich people of Hamburg live" but in German she is naming the celebrities/designers/athletes that live in the large houses along the Aubenalster lake. Our friend also had to fill us in about the Hotel Atlantic and how a Bond film was filmed there. I recommend the hop-on hop-off tour buses with the earphones where you can change the dial to the language of your choice.
