Hallstatt, with its 900 people one of the most visited towns in Austria. Since 1996 Hallstatt is recoginzed by the UNESCO as world heritage.
Since more than 7000 years people are living here. They settled in the so called "Hallstatt" age because of the salt. Salt was used to preserve meat.
There are many things when you see touristic pictures of a country. Beside Salzburg and Vienna Hallstatt is one of the most shown cities of Austria.
Things to do:
- visit the Salt mine
- see the bone chamber
- go for hikes
- continue to the Ice caves at the mount Dachtstein
- walk thrue the city
- visit the local museum to see prehistoric tools and coins
- Enjoy a quiet night in a pension beside the lake
