Nutritional but average tasting food Jan 31, 2016
S37°7.800' E142°32.039' the reason this pub is called “hotel”, dates back to the days that licenses only allowed pubs and restaurants to provide alcohol to the traveling public. The presence of a few rooms (which might never be used) gave some impression that the rules were being followed. Halls Gap Hotel offers generous, no-nonsense pub food about 2km north of Halls Gap with a wide view on the Grampians. Beside its menu, it offers daily specials. There is no lunch menu. Diner starts at noon.

Interior of the restaurant is an inconspicuous big hall with a bar and a food counter for ordering. In December 2015, we ordered a 10" pizza BBQ chicken, tomato base, chicken pieces, bacon, BBQ sauce, onion, mushrooms, pineapple, mozzarella for AUS$18.90. Nutritional, but average in taste. Next to the pizza, we ordered a lamb roast of the day for AUS$21,90. The same again: nutritional but average in taste.

Halls Gap Hotel is a social place for local people to a have simple family meal in an air-conditioned hall or for tourists to have a beer after a day's bush walking. The food is pub grub that fills without any ambition stomachs rather than excites taste buds.
