Half Moon Bay Art & Pumpkin Festival Reviews
The Great Pumpkin Affair Oct 26, 2008
The Half Moon Bay Art and Pumpkin Festival supporting community programs is an annual autumn weekend event. The affair is always festive, crowd pleasing, and family-oriented. This seasonal event certainly attracted a much bigger crowd this year than past years, as well as, a genuine autumn chill. But the weather did by no means dampen the Halloween spirit of festival goers.
The drive to Half Moon Bay is quite an event itself. You will pass through a scenic lake vista that prefaces the festival atmosphere and experience. But then, frustration will set in as soon as you see the winding, crawling, miles of cars trying to reach the same destination. However, once you pass the groves of Christmas trees, you will be greeted by several rustic pumpkin patches, which will immediately erase that exhaustive traffic from memory, and replace it with relieved anticipation instead.
You will encounter toddlers warmly dressed in their super cute Halloween costumes, kids trying to convince their parents that they’re old enough and brave enough to go into one of the Haunted Houses or playlands dotting the main thoroughfare, and adults in their scarves and long jackets slowly making their way through blocks of unique harvest-inspired arts and crafts or just posted at the sidewalk listening to live entertainment. What you will not see are cars, because the city closes the Main St. to traffic.
I personally love anything pumpkin, so this is definitely a festival for me. I suppose the draw to pumpkins are the availability aspect, which it isn’t year round. So when leaves turn a golden amber hue (yes, it can be seen in parts of the Bay Area!), then you know it’s that time of the year…….pumpkin pancakes, pumpkin latte, pumpkin ice cream, pumpkin pie, pumpkin tart, pumpkin bread, pumpkin muffin, pumpkin cheesecake, etc, and other festival-type foods. And off course, throughout the day, I had managed to consume more than half of those food items I just mentioned! Since admission is free….where else would you spend your money?
And let’s not forget the star of the weekend………pumpkins, Pumpkins, GIANT PUMPKINS! You’ll see displays of creativity with the pumpkin carving contest, a pumpkin weigh-off, and the hunt for the perfect pumpkin to bring home!
Have a safe and.....spooktacular Halloween!!!!!!!
