Hakone free pass Dec 28, 2008
The Hakone free pass allows you to travel on most transportation in the Hakone area for free including the train from Shinjuku in Tokyo to Hakone,as well as the main transportation used for sightseeing. Train to Gora, the souzan cable car, the Hakone ropeway and the boat that cruises on Lake Ashinoko. Most buses are free except for the bus that takes you to the ryokan that you are staying in but they only charge 100 yen for that.
The Hakone free pass also gives you discounts or free entry into most of the attractions in the area. The passes are valid for 2 or 3 days From Shinjuku 2 day pass is 5000 yen 3 day pass is 5500 yen You can take any train from Shinjuku except for the limited express You can buy the pass from either Shinjuku station or from a main station on the Odakyu railway line from Shinjuku to Odawara. If your traveling from the Osaka area 2 day pass is 3900 yen 3 day pass is 4400 yen You can buy this at Odawara station, Hakone Yumoto or Mishima station. From Shinjuku station the train, bus, cable car and ropeway and boat would cost you 6900 yen if you didn't use this pass. This alone save you quite a lot of money. See and Ride the 5 types of transportation in Hakone with the Hakone Free Pass! Oct 14, 2008
A great way to see Mt. Fuji and explore the area of Hakone is to purchase the Hakone Free Pass by Odakyu Railways.
The Hakone Free Pass includes: unlimited use of Odakyu affiliated buses, trains, boats, cablecars and ropeways within the Hakone free area, discounted admission to selected tourist attractions, and one round trip to the Hakone free area by Odakyu Railways (This only applies if Free Pass is purchased outside of the free area like Shinjuku and Mishima.) They offer a 2-day pass or 3-day pass. From Shinjuku, it is 5,000 Yen for a 2-day pass and 5,500 Yen for a 3-day pass. From Odawara (inside free area), it is 3,900 Yen for a 2-day pass and 4,400 Yen for a 3-day pass. Reduced rates (almost 75%) apply for children. The free pass is valid on two or three consecutive days, respectively. Part of the The Japan Experience 2008 travel blog |
