Best Bar in KL for 30+ Mar 05, 2009
After being hassled at the Beach by prostitutes of every race/gender plus some you never even knew existed, hanging out with the one drink teeny-boppers in Zouk, we finally found a great bar to listen to good music and just chill out in Kuala Lumpur.Hakka Republic is the coolest bar in town and they actually have some great food as well. The crowd is a mixed crowd with some visitors like us but mainly some very relaxed and friendly locals who are usually busy having a great time.Great bar snacks( stuffed olives, quesadillas) and the best Burger in KL.Had their sunday brunch which was worth every $ of the RM65 plus drinks at happy hour prices.

We tried this restaurant because of these two reviews, and mine follows:

I only wish we had found this place sooner! We were here in KL for two weeks, and had mostly amazing dining experiences (other than a few service issues)....

but we ate at this place on our LAST NIGHT!.....and it was the absolute cherry on top! We had a burger and beef tenderloin entree....both were delicious....

and as an appetizer (or what they call entrees in this part of the world)...we had a beef carpaccio.

We don't normally go for ALL of the same meat when we go out to eat, but this was the first time we ever did, and it was divine!!! Divine bovine!

The service was top notch for KL....hell, was top notch for DC which is where we're from. The decor and vibe of the place is great. Easily accessible...

a true gem. in the two weeks we were in KL, we found our best dining experience on our LAST NIGHT!

CRUEL FATE!

Do yourself a favor...
go here!!

THE Bar in KL Apr 03, 2009
If you like good music and great ventilation, Hakka Republic is THE Bar in Kuala Lumpur for those who enjoy their drink. Great cocktails, good selection of whisky and an impressive wine list with many wines by the glass. Food is surprisingly, very good and they have a fairly busy bistro. Prices are reasonable and it attracts a mixed clientele. Great evidence of this was the number of Japanese having drinks and dinner. In Asia, the Japanese are particular about the food and 'salarymen' are very value conscious. Generally, slightly more women than men as I am told it is perceived to be a 'safe' bar without the security problems of the other street level bars.
Probably the best Bar in KL with the best music which is a combination of different genres.
Try their wine by the glass-all excellent and served perfectly unlike most restaurants in Asia. For bar snacks their Beef and Guiness puff is excellent. In the restaurant their Cod with Miso is out of this world and their 'CK' burger is very tasty. The waiter recommended that I have it with a fried egg along with the cheese. Wow! This really is tasty
