Off the tourist path site Feb 05, 2013
This is the site of the Muslim saint who lived in the fourteenth century. Although he is connected to Mumbai as he spent the last years of his life there, it is said that he made the pilgrimage to Mecca after selling off all his worldly possessions. The site receives a steady stream of pilgrims and some nights have devotional music. It really is a very beautifully decorated building.

Though the site is religious, it is permissible to visit it as a tourist. Many beggars line the entrance in the hope of receiving some money. You have to take your shoes off before entering, and watching out for touts is good in this respect (they will agree to watch over your shoes, and fetch them for you, for a fee of course!). Though photography is allowed, it is a good idea to keep this to a minimum.

While the site is a little out of central Mumbai, it is worth a quick visit. There is a juice centre just before the shrine, and this place is not to be missed for sweet treats such as lassis.

Yes! It is not very respectful often to take pictures of people praying at least I think!

Where you pay your respects at the shrine of Haji Ali, the constantly-moving line of people meant that you had to keep going! Pics are allowed, but as there as quite a few pilgrims there, I felt that I had to "blend in" a bit more!

Why you advice to keep the photgraphy to a minimum while it is allowed?

Famous religious place for Muslims in Mumbai Sep 23, 2011
Haji Ali Dargah is a very famous Muslim religious place in Mumbai. This religious place was built in the middle of the sea to remember an Islamic preacher, Sayed Peer Haji Ali Shah Bukhari.

This place is located near Mahalaxmi suburban railway station and visitors are allowed only when the tides are low. Devotees and Visitors will be here to offer prayers. Fridays being the religious day for Muslims this place will be full of people. opens between 5AM and 11PM this beach side religious place is one of most visited place in Mumbai.

I was here many times 15 years ago when I was working in Mumbai and in this trip again to cherish those wonderful memories. This place look great under lights and while sunset.

A nice evening walk place and recommended to all sunset lovers.
