Haifa and Mount Carmel
posted by:

This morning, we headed to the Tel Aviv train station and took a train up to the port city of Haifa.  The city of Haifa exists from the base of the biblical Mount Carmel all the way to the top.  We found our hostel, dropped off our belongings, and headed into the city.  Looking at a map on paper, the city looked easy to navigate, but once we realized that some of the sites were on the mountain, we thought better of  walking.  For this very reason, Haifa is the only ci…

Haifa...Slightly Conservative Beach Town
posted by:

Note to future travelers to Israel, going to Haifa is TOTALLY worth a side trip up.  There are directions in English so it's not too hard to figure out. It's a town on a big hill but the beach is just gorgeous. The train literally lets you off right in front of the beach and as far as the beach goes, dress (or lack thereof) is not an issue (not so with the rest of Haifa I was soon to find out). I figured Haifa = beachy = shorts and flowy breezy flimsy top and flip flo…

Reunions & Randomness

Perhaps the main reason I decided to go to Israel was to visit the various Israeli mates I met on my travels. Where ever you go on holidays, it seems that you will almost always encounter an Israeli backpacker somewhere. I have met many on my travels. I travelled with the lovely Lihi and extraordinary Omri around the Nord Este of Brazil and then randomly met Eyal in Africa and travelled much of Southern Africa together. These 3 in particular were a strong enough reason alone fo…

Waking up in the homeland

Well I know it has once again been quite a while since I’ve put anything up on this thing, but I’ll try to go over some of the happenings that have gone on. I went on a tour of a snack factory for one of my classes the other weekend—one of the best field trips ever… probably because there was plenty of sampling involved. We got the full tour of the place and got to see how the ginormous barrels of dough turned into pretzels. It was like being on that show how its made…Last week I…

Tel Aviv, Israel -› Israel -› ...
In 2005, I spent a total of 3 weeks in Israel. The first two weeks were to volunteer with the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), and the last week was for sightseeing in Eilat on the Red Sea, and in the capital Jerusalem. I wrote some hurried emails off to friends and family when I got internet cafes, and this is a mildly edited collection of those emails along with some pictures I took then.
