Hagerman Fossil Beds National Monument Jun 27, 2012
This monument protects a very large deposit of fossils from the Pliocene epoch, 3.5 million years ago. It is named after the Hagerman Horse fossils found in the area. The Visitors Center has a replica of one of these horses and you can find the original in the Smithsonian.

What can you do? First , stop at the Visitor's Center. It consists of a small museum containing fossils and some kids activities (such as digging for fake fossils). You can then go into the monument and look at Oregon Trail tracks and view the quarry.
