Hacienda El Paraiso Santa Elena Reviews
A lovely Colombian Hacienda - Hacienda el Paraiso Oct 24, 2009
If you are in Cali, visiting an hacienda in the countryside is highly recommended. There are a couple of haciendas to visit in the area, but the loveliest - at least for me - is the Hacienda El Paraiso aka "The Maria" among the locals.
What makes this hacienda more interesting than the others? Well, the famous Colombian writer, Jorge Isaacs, wrote his most famous novel "Maria", which has autobiographic character and takes place here.
The main house is big, with lovely rooms (bedrooms, dining room, living rooms, kitchen, desks, sewing rooms, etc) and a really nice garden inside. Gardens with big trees, nice roses and mini rivers surround all the property.
You pay a fee like that includes the entrance and a tour around the hacienda. You can stay here as long as you want. During the tour the guide will explain you about the novel and the daily life in the Colombian Society back those days.
The house is beautiful and the landscape is breath taking, love the color of the roses! I highly recommend to visit La Maria and get an idea how the wealthy people used to live in Cauca Valley.
Adults $ 4.500 (US$2,25)
