Haastrecht Overview

When you visit Haastrecht, you must not forget to visit the beautiful 17th century town hall. The beautiful stepped gable reminds you of the prominent position occupied by Haastrecht in the past. During a stroll through the centre, you have to visit the Hofje van Zijl, the drawbridge from 1883 and the Reformed Church with its 13th century tower. This church was destroyed many times and burned down twice. To the right of the church is the 18th century fire station and a former school house.

Museums
Polder Museum Gemaal De Hooge Boezem – Polder Museum Gemaal de Hooge Boezem behind Haastrecht, is situated in the Hoogstraat of the pleasant town of Haastrecht. In the Polder Museum, you can experience a historical 1000 years of water, with the origin of the polders, the mills and the steam-driven mills. A slideshow, an exhibition, working machines in the old pump room and an enthusiastic guide unveil the history of the water in the area.

The Bisdom van Vliet Museum – This museum gives a striking picture of the homes and lives of a 19th century patrician family and owes its existence to the last testament and will of Lady Paulina Bisdom van Vliet, who died on 1 June 1923, and who was the widow of Mr Le Fèvre de Montigny.

Nature
Opposite the Bisdom van Vliet Museum in Haastrecht is the Bisdom van Vliet Park, which was already laid out in the 17th century. At the Zijdeweg in Haastrecht is the stork outdoor centre, “Het Doove Gat”, where a number of storks breed.
