Haarzuilens Overview

Haarzuilens is a smal town near Utrecht. In the year 1999 it had 210 inhabitants.
The town is particularly well known because of its beautiful castle: Kasteel de Haar.

Originally, Haarzuilens was located closer to the castle. But in 1898 the town was demolished to make place for castle gardens. Haarzuilens was relocated two kilometers away from it old spot, and was completely designed by the architect Pierre Cuypers, who was also the main architect for the renovation of the castle. Because of all the building activities on the town and castle, from then on the population of Haarzuilens more than doubled.
