HMS Beltfast Travel Reviews

Mar 08, 2007
Not so far from Tower bridge lies HMS beltfast permanetly moored in the Thames. This is an old WW2 cruiser which participated in the Normandy Landings (Operation Overlord or D-day) and the sinking of an German Warship of the North Cape in Norway.

Is it worth the trip? YES! My view might be biased since im a seaman ,but anyway. Most of the people i met loved the exhibiton. You will get a map once you enter and hold on to it! Its not so easy to find the way trough all the narrow places and corridors. The reception will also offer you an "walkman style thingie" to give audio presentation about the diferent sections of the ship. This is free of charge and good to have if you want some extra information. There is also videopresentation at some of the sights in the Engine Room and the Gun batteries.

Ask the reception about a guide. I where walking around by myself untill i met a group of swedish people. I joined their guided tour of the ship and even tough ive been to most of the places just minuttes before it was much better having a good guide. The guide where VERY GOOD and well worth the extra cost it may have.

Ive been to merhant ships with a age of only 10years and i must say that HMS beltfast is one beatiful lady for her Age. Doesnt look like a new ship ,but considering launced in 1938 she is a real beauty.

(pictures and spelling correction will come as fast as i download the pictures from the camera. Just typing down before i forget)

Not forgetting things like the coolest dinossaur and fossil exibihition that exists. And also you can have a pop into the brand new Darwin institute were if...
peppertm says: This is the church right beside Westminster Abbey, and it is beautiful. You’re not allowed to take pictures inside, which is a shame because it’s really lovely. *Admission by donation
