HKCEC - Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre Reviews
a large venue for connecting people Jun 14, 2010
HKCEC is located on an artificial island on Victoria Harbour, in the middle of the central bank and business district of Hong Kong. It stands out in its architecture and is one of many significant landmarks of HK. I got the feeling that it looks like the opera house in Sidney, although I have never been to Australia. LP describes the look of the building like ‘ a bird’s eye, a banana leaf and a lotus petal’, exiting descriptions aren’t they.
The building is very large with a total Gross Area of 306,000 sqm including
Six Exhibition Halls of 66,000 sqm
Two Convention Halls of 5,699 sqm
Two Theatres with Seating for 1,000 people and of 800 sqm
Fifty-two Meeting Rooms of 6,004 sqm
Seven Restaurants with a total seating for 1,070 people
Two food and beverage function-rooms for 768 people and
Two underground Car Parks with more than 1,000 lots.
I attended a Conference with 3.000 delegates, and that gave me a feeling like it was a drop in the ocean in this building. You can think it is easy to get lost in such a building, but HKCEC is very well organized with signposts, information posters, escalator systems and helpful staff, helping you find the venue for your meeting. It takes you circa ten minutes from the entrance of the building to the conference-hall on the top floor, using ordinary escalators.
The restaurants serve international food, and what about a Waldorf salad for the price of 27 HKD and it tasted very well. The café in the ground-floor serves the best coffee I had in HK, very strong and aromatic, like at home.
The taxi-stands is like inside the building, surrounded by glass-walls. You also get a handful of fancy shops. Two nice hotels are connected to the facilities and within walking distance there are more than six-thousand hotel-rooms.
