Hotel in Eixample-District Apr 09, 2011
### Location ###
This Hotel was the only one affordable (cause I booked very shortly), that was not too suburban. Its on Av. Diagonal, a long and important avenue and its located in the area of the Eixample District.
There are a few bars and restaurants around, if you want more, you might have to walk a bit. The southern sightseeing spots are quite far away (like the harbor or beach) and it takes some time to get there but overall the location is still okay, cause the Camp Nou is reachable very quickly by taking the tramline and also Sagrada Familia is located close to Av. Diagonal. If you plan trips to Park Güell and Tibidabo Mountain it might be also good.
You can reach the southern parts by walking 15 minutes to Pl. Gracia's Metro Station or take 2-3 bus stops to go there. From there you can take the metro in any direction. But if you want to go down to the harbor, I would recommend walking anyway. It might take two hours, BUT you will see so many nice things on your way that you would miss, when using the metro. For example theres Casa Mila and Casa Battlo, all the Stores and Shops, Street-Performers and then you will reach the famous La Rambla street (with its well-known Market de la Boqueria) that you walk along until you reach the harbor.
I think theres no "central" hotel in Barcelona, all the sightseeing spots are far away from each other, so something is always close (or far away ;-)).
The surrounding area provides some coffee shops, subway, McDonalds and others. The avenue is beautiful with all the trees, old buildings and it’s very clean although ist busy with motorbikes, cars, bikes and busses.
### Room ###
The room was big, aswell as the bathroom – I have never had such a big bath in an hotel yet. It was clean, had free WLAN access (which you have to ask for at the reception) and a big safe that also serves a notebook and even a big camera inlcuding lens (but it costs 5 Euro a day). The only bad thing about my room was the window. You could just look straight to another wall which made the room very dark, but well...I’m not in Barcelona to sit in my hotel room, right? :)
### Restaurant ###
Havent had breakfast and didnt eat in the hotel, so can not tell if it’s good.
### Service ###
The personnel was okay - when I complained about the cheeky 5€ per day for the safe they told me that I can have it for four days by only paying the 5 Euro once. They also helped on any questions regarding to how to get somewhere. Only problem was that their english wasn’t that good and it was hard to understand them.
### Amenities ###
Havent found any in the hotel :-P As said before, also the surrounding area doesnt provide that much things to do, but when you walk for like 15 minutes you’ll find some clubs and bars.
