Gumbo Jeaux’s - My Catfish Opelousa...many calories, but DELICIOUS!
Gumbo Jeaux’s - Hmmmmm, decisions, decisions....
Gumbo Jeaux’s - Gumbo Jeaux's - a nice dining option just outside of Bush Intercontinental Airport
Gumbo Jeaux’s - Sorry to add such a crappy photo - but wanted to share a fun decoration from Gumbo Jeaux's

Flying with Cajun Jun 01, 2013
Had to overnight in Houston by Bush Intercontinental Airport, an opportunity to share dinner with an old friend. She’s a true Texan and insisted the 25 mile drive to my hotel was “nothing”, but I didn’t want to force her to drive too far after coming all that way to grab me. On the shuttle ride to the hotel I had noticed Gumbo Jeaux’s off JFK Boulevard, the main access road to the busy airport, and led with that suggestion.

She had never been, but some Cajun sounded good, so off we went. From the façade, one would suspect this was a chain, but I think it was a stand-alone eatery – nothing inside appeared to be “franchised”. Instead, we were confronted by a brief, but broad, menu spanning Cajun, burgers and Mexican. You placed your order at the counter and provided a name they could shout out when dinner was ready. Most people came up and grabbed their platters from the counter, though once or twice they brought the fare out.

It was fairly late (7:30 PM) for a casual dinner and business was steady, so I can only imagine the place gets a bit crazy during rush hours. Marga and I were both lured in by one of the night’s specials, Catfish Opelousa (catfish and shrimp). I don’t usually eat something so calorie packed (the dish was served over a bed of rice and the shrimp was heavily breaded), but man did it hit the spot! It was awesome to indulge at such a reasonable price. Though I can’t vouch for anything else on the menu, Gumbo Jeaux’s was alright by me and I gladly recommend them

Cutesy name and guess it's a play on words where the closest in French would be jeux=games, but could also be a guy named Joe. : )
