After saying our goodbyes we got in our car a drove for about an hour and decided to stop in Gulfport for the night. Another Best Western. This is a big facility.  Three levels, elevators, even a night club attached to the front.  And when we pulled in at nearly 10p.m. the place was jumping and rocking and the people were coming and going and the noise level was up there. We checked at the desk for a room and they gave us two choices.  On the first floor quite near the club o...

posted by:
Aug 17, 2005
We had completed many underways on the ship summer of 2005 getting ready for the next cruise we had to do for our next mission,  Unfortunately Hurricane Katrina happened when we were supposed to be home with our families and we headed down south, picking up many many 'passengers' along the way to aide in our Humanitarian Mission.  One of those days we were just 'floating around' and small boats were inbound to us with Mexican Marines.  After they were all on board, we fe...

Gulfport, MS

Took a day trip to Gulfport and Biloxi, MS to see what progress had been made since my last trip after Hurricane Katrina in October 2005 to help my friends clean up their place there.  We also wanted to show a friend of mine that was on this trip the damage first hand.  He was shocked. I have to be honest - there has been little to no progress in rebuilding!  Utter and complete devastation all along the Mississippi Gulf Coast.  All of the debris and stuff that c...
