Gula-Gula in Ipanema is an excellent choice (gula means gluttony in Portuguese) if you're looking for fine dinning in a relaxed atmosphere. Apparently it's a favourite restaurant among neighborhood residents.
They offer an open-air patio, with makes it a fine spot to indulge while watching people mingling on the street. The food is stupendous! The steak is so tender and juicy you can cut it with a butter knife. Some dishes are offered with your choice of sauce/topping for the meat. The mashed potatos were to die for!
