Guildford is the capital city of Surrey, not far from London situated on the river Wey. Train links are very good, which is probably the reason why many people commute.

Guildford town centre is very nice with a good view over the surrounding hills but can get busy and sometimes quite unpleasant especially on Friday and Saturday nights because most bars and clubs are crowded in a small area, which inevitably seems to lead to conflicts. Apart from that, though, Guildford offers plenty of shopping opportunities on the High Street and its surrounding streets. It can get very busy, especially on weekends when trying to find a parking spot is often a nightmare. One of the sights of Guildford are the ruins of a Norman castle, which are part of a public garden.
