Very basic May 25, 2011
I spent two nights at the Guildford hotel. I chose it as it was the cheapest (£64 per night for a single room)and was very close to Birkbeck University where I had an interview.

It has a standard single bed, a very poor analoge TV where if you wanted to change channel backwards (from ITV or Channel 5 to the BBC), you had to switch it off and on again where it landed on BBC1 - never experienced that with a TV before!

The bathroom was very small - about 3ft x 3ft and that's no exaggeration. Breakfast was in a dining room consisting of a few long tables with plastic table cloths. Can't remember what I had as it was a while ago.

My abiding memory of this hotel is sleeping below a box which had the central heating pipes in. The noise it made at all hours of the day and night was unbelievable - like sleeping next to a runway. Even for budget accommodation I felt slightly ripped off because of that.
