One of few budget hotels in Viejo San Juan AND has the BEST location! Jul 05, 2007
In Puerto Rico you will quickly learn there are no hostels and few cheap places to stay. Luckily we found this "gem" right in downtown Old San Juan. It is dirty and dingy but the location and price make it well worth it! It is on Calle Tanca. The hotel is literally in the best part of town, just off Calle Fortaleza where all of the hip bars and restaurants are. We got an awesome room with a balcony overlokking the street -- so if you do not like reggaeton bumping till all hours of the morning, this room is not recommended! Some rooms have A/C and others just have fans -- these get pretty hot at night in the summer even with windows wide open. I think we paid around $18USD per night (2007).

We spent the first night at the Fortaleza guesthouse in a room with one interior window and no air conditioing - it was HOT! Needless to say, that was our only night there! We went out salsa dancing (I am no good at all!) at the Nuyorican Cafe - a happening club with live… Viejo San Juan |
