Guest House Douro Porto Reviews
Hats off to Carmen and Joao Dec 04, 2009
We were blessed to have an opportunity to stay with Carmen and Joao, the best B&B hosts in the world. The inn is truly a labor of love for them and it clearly shows in every detail from the fresh flowers to the charming knick knacks in our room. Staying here gave us a true sense of life in the Ribiera, a UNESCO heritage site. The architecture is surprisingly Dutch due to the historically ties with the lovely nation of tulips and other botanical delights. Also, if you're really into historical monuments, the inn happens to be the birthplace of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bacalhau_%C3%A0_Gomes_de_S%C3%A1 , famous bacalhau dish.
-A meticulously restored piece of Portuguese architecture
-Amazing, healthy breakfast served up by Joao everyday
-Fantastic views of Villa-de-Gaia, the true home of Port
-Great location filled with nightlife, restaurants and a short bridge crossing from the Port houses
-Very friendly hosts who will literally go order your meal for you at the neighborhood place to ensure that you get what you want
-The rooms with the fabulous views also happen to be the smaller ones. If you need space get the rooms that faces the street.
