Key sight Apr 28, 2011
The cathedral dates back to the twelfth century and although it is very easy to get to for a key sight in Gubbio, it’s hard not to be disappointed by the rather plain looking façade you are greeted with. The church is dedicated to Saints James and Mariano, who are said to be amongst the first martyrs for Christianity. Their lives are honoured through their relics held in the church. Overall, the art is rather wonderful here, especially the frescoes towards the main altar. Photography is officially banned, so the snaps you see below were taken rather cheekily. Definitely in the top 3 list of things to do in Gubbio.
