Groveton and Trinity County May 11, 2017
Groveton is a small town of about 1000 (down 6% since 2000) located at the intersection of Texas Highway 94 and US Highway 287 in Trinity County in the Piney Woods Section of Texas. Groveton was established along the Trinity and Sabine Rail Line in 1882 and was named for a grove of Black Jack Oak Trees in the area. The Trinity County Lumber Company bought acreage of trees and built a sawmill here. Also in 1882, the county seat was moved from Pennington to Groveton. Groveton is the county seat of Trinity County. Trinity County was established in 1850. The first county seat was Sumpter (now a ghost town), then Trinity, Pennington and finally Groveton. The current Trinity County Courthouse was completed in 1913 using a design by W. A. Norris using the Classical Revival style of architecture. The courthouse square is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

There is a sign in a little patch of green across from courthouse square honoring veterans of the nation's military. I feel it is important to remember the sacrifices made by our military and their contributions to our freedom and way of life.

I'm with you about honouring the military but you already know that, Jim.
