Gripsholm castle Aug 09, 2010
The castle nice but not so interesting if you not do the guidingtour in the castle.
by your own you can just see the castle and the exibithion of old paintings of famouse people but not know anything about it. Welel you can buy a small book for some money to read when you get home or along the walk around in the castle.

A Swedish fairytale castle Jun 12, 1997
Gripsholm Castle is idyllically situated on the shore of Lake Mälaren in the neat town of Mariefred.
This lovely and fairytale-like castle was built in the 16th century and offers a fabulous melange of awesome surroundings, wonderful architecture and interesting history.
Both locals and tourists love this beautiful building with all its fascinating details.
If strolling around the quiet and atmospheric castle grounds, discovering Swedish history from the past to the present with the help of a guided tour (daily at 1pm in English language) or enjoying art thanks to the great Swedish National Collection consisting of many portraits, which present popular Swedes – stopping at the castle is definitely worth a few hours.
Please note that the castle just opens daily from 15th May to 15th September.
All in all the dreamy atmosphere combined with interesting aspects concerning the Swedish past makes young and old smiling.
