The best Pizza I've had so far (and I had a few in Italy) was at Grimaldi's, directly below the Brooklyn Bridge on Brooklyn Side. It's absolutely packed, and often you have to wait in the line outside. Most of the people are locals, but I've spotted some tourists, too. I think that's because it was highly recommended in Lonely Planet.

But anyway, no tourist trap, just awesome food in an italian ambiente (with polish waiters) and Frank (Sinatra, of course) everywhere.

Grimaldi's Pizzaria is located in Brooklyn, tucked under the Brooklyn Bridge. It's a hole-in-the-wall place, but run by "real" Italians, running around and barking orders at each other. The kitchen is open, so you can watch as they toss your pizza's dough, put the toppings on and throw it in the brick oven. Nothing is fancy about this place: tables are shoved together, and if you order Coca-cola, it's served in the can with a glass of ice.

The pizza is great, fired in the brick oven that is nice and seasoned! The pizza sauce was good, and tasted homemade to me!

The wait, even on a weeknight can be long, and be prepared to stand outside. There's no room inside, as every square inch is occupied with a table! The walls are covered with photographs of famous and semi-famous people who have visited, and most are autographed. Everyone from baseball players to actors have come here!

Grimaldi's is a short walk from the water-side in Brooklyn and a few blocks from the subway station. When we visited, we walked across the Brooklyn Bridge, ate at Grimaldi's and took the subway back into Manhattan.

They only accept cash, so be sure you have enough! No credit cards and certainly no checks!

If you want authentic italian-new york style pizza this is the place! It could take like an hour to get seating as the place is one of new york's most famous pizzerias but the pizzas are delicious.
