Very nice hostel Jul 03, 2011
This was the first hostel I've ever stayed in and I got used to it pretty fast. I stayed in a 5 bed female dorm. It had 2 bunk beds and 1 window bed. They all had huge underbed lockers, individual reading lights and there was a sink in the room. The bathrooms were all individual and there were many in each floor. They all had a shower in them and were very clean. There was no paper towels or any shower soap/shampoo/body lotion though. Only liquid hand soap near the sink. The windows in my room didn't close completely and there was always a draft and lots of noise from the street though. It wasn't ideal if you need your sleep at night as everybody is partying outside the hostel coming and going in clubs till very late at night. There's a large fully equipped kitchen and they offer free breakfast including eggs (that you cook yourself), bagels, cut fruits, tea/coffee/orange juice, jams and peanut butter.
They also offer free dinner mondays, wednesdays and fridays which was buffet style and you need to finish what you put in your plate or you pay 4$ if they catch you throwing away leftovers. It felt a bit like summer camp sometimes but I liked it and otherwise you are free to do whatever you want and come and go as you please. No smoking anywhere in the hostel though. But they do have a basket of free condoms on the desk.lol
There's also lots of activities if you want to participate in group outings and tours. There's a free sauna, they lend you towels for $1, there's a laundromat which i believe is free and has fre detergent too.
It is very well situated in little Italy close to Chinatown and walking distance to lots of places.
