Name deceived our Valentine's day Feb 15, 2010
Celebrating Valentine’s Day is a must for us in what so ever the condition we are. It is a practice and we enjoyed it from our first Valentine’s Day in 1999. This time without any prior selection of activities and venue we planned to have a dynamic touch for our special day. This led us to drive and explore some parts of Kampala in search of a new restaurant. By searching new restaurants our objective was to experience a change. There comes a new restaurant which we never tried before or not even noticed before. Green tea restaurant is specialized in Chinese food and is not prominent to attract everyone passing the route. We have decided to give a try. The restaurant was off the main road and resembled an old house rather than a restaurant. Before parking our transport, I have confirmed the service and accepted the guidance of attendant to reach the table. He escorted us through the old house to the backyard. The place was very calm and surely beautiful as if made for the occasion. There was another family enjoying their lunch as we reached the restaurant. We have occupied our table and browsed through the menu offered by the attendant. Menu was not much different from other normal Chinese restaurants though price was slightly high. So, menu didn’t offer any vigor or dissatisfaction to us. We asked for Chinese gin, steamed dumplings, and vegetable spring rolls to start with. We were supplied with Chinese gin in no time and it tasted different though not very impressive. After 10 minutes, over fried vegetable spring rolls were served and nothing more for next 30 minutes. When the attendant paid a visit to us next time, it was to say “there are no boiled dumplings and you may go for the main course”. With disappointment we moved ahead on our course and asked for plain rice, sizzling tofu, and fried fish in hot ginger and garlic sauce. In another 20 minutes fried fish in hot ginger and garlic sauce was served followed by sizzling tofu. We had to wait for another 25 minutes to have plain rice and start our main course. I have never tasted such disappointing dish before. The service and food quality of Green tea restaurant washed off all colors we were trying to splash on our Valentine’s Day.
