Get there before commercialism devours it. May 19, 2012
Green Island, is a typical cliche must-see. The very rocky, hour ferry ride just amps up the excitement for the island.

Green Island has a mixture of

。unscathed natural beauty

。a world wonder

。dark history

When you get off the ferry- its chaos (espeically if your ferry is the not the only to arrive). There are people everywhere collecting their rental scooters-unfortunately, none are electric. The need for sustainable tourism on the island is very present, but I feel it may be years before the implementation of procedures.

Since, locals are concerned on making a profit from the

influx of tourists.

Green Island is Green! It is absolutely gorgeous. It also holds many interesting rock formations; these make for some good pictures. Going around the island mixes together the green landscape and the blue of the ocean so perfectly.

The island has 1 of 3 in the world's fresh water hot springs. The upkeep of the hot spring is not the greatest- but the experience is amazing. For those who like things a little cleaner, there is a man-made outdoor hot spring area. It also uses salt water and it over looks the natural hot spring and the ocean.

This place is most popular for its dark history. Many political activists were exiled here during Taiwan's martial law. For those ghost seekers, Lyudao prison definitely gives you the hebee geebes. Oasis village, hosted politcal prisoners and you can see the inside.

Unfortunately, for locals there is already a 711 and a family-mart on the island. Try and give your money back to the island and its community. The restaurants are really good and the gift shops hold some unique articles. BBQ dinner should be experienced; there are many options around the island.

A small beautiful island Jun 21, 2011
I visited this beautiful island in this April (year 2011) to obtain my skuba diving certificate. I was amazed by the beautiful water and scenery both above and under the sea.

Most of people ride scooters to commute since it's fairly easy to rent one at any shops. It's about USD 6-10/day. Green Island is an ideal spot for water activities. Most of people go skuba-diving or snorkeling. Although I haven't skuba-diving in Kenting or other places in Taiwan, I heard Green island has the best view. (And yes I did see A LOT OF fishes and one Turtle!)

Diving is not a problem on the island, most of the restaurants are for tourists with reasonable prices. Food is not particularly impressive but there's a 7-11 convenient store on the island. In case some of you have never been to Taiwan, I'd like to tell you that 7-11 is one miracle in Taiwan you can basically find everything you need there, including a nice meal.

As to lodging, there're a lot of B&B on the island but You shouldn't expect too much from these B&B. The overall quality in terms of condition and room comfort is probably just 2 star (out of 5). Lodging should be about USD 30-50/night.
