in the land of the country which is called 'greece' today, the last 6000 years some of the most imortant civilisations of Mediterranian, flourished & died. the 1st was the Cycladic, placed in the area of Cyclades (santorini, naxos, paros, myconos, etc) at about 4000 bc. the 2nd was the Minoan, placed in the island of crete, which ended violently at about 1700 bc, by the eruprion of santorini's volcano. the 3rd was the Mycinaic (which is my favourite) that was the last civ...

Just wanted to see how video from my camera worked. It did! So enjoy the view from my room at 6 am in the morning. It was a charming hotel and I will miss it dearly. I have enjoyed all the luxury that a hotel of this class offers. Now to head to the economy places where I will have to rough it a bit. It is a good thing I have a suitcase full of hair products and lotions. You never know what you will need.
I can't figure out to add two entries on the same day without having to include it in ...

Meteora means hanging in mid air: They are Cenobitic monasteries
The unusual mountain structures were formed long ago by water from the Pindus Mountains which melted and carried away the limestone portions leaving tall mountains 1000 feet (300 meters) taller than the surrounding countryside. As early as the 11th century monks sought solitude in the caves in the sides of the mountains. In the 14th century the hermitages became monasteries. St Athonasius from Mt Athos founde...

What can i say about Kos. Kos offers magnificent beauty. Besides its breath taking golden sandy beaches, the island is also steeped in monuments, remnants from its glorious past, making it the ideal holiday destination, not only as a choice between other Greek Islands but on a worldwide scale.
Kos has much more than just the sea and sun to offer. It is also ideal for trips, (rich in history and famous since mythological times), scientific, hiking or mountain climbing.Come enjoy

We did spend some time near our hotel, for example we spent the whole day on the beach... or did we go that day to Kourna Lake? I can't remember already. Anyway, the lake was 4 kilometers from our hotel and we went there twice. First time we drove in the car, and it was hot and the place was ugly. I mean I think it was beautiful some years before. or maybe centuries. but now with umbrellas, boats and catamarans it looked ugly. all water area was covered in ducks and their... you guess what......

We went to the national archeological museum and saw so many many
things..... so ancient! It is so amazing that things survived. pots and
statues and bronze pieces.
I accidentally used a flash and the docent yelled at me. I was so mortified.
I apologized to him as I left the room and he was very kind and waved hishand and said "it is forgotten". which is a typical thing a Greek says to accept your...

From the top of Delphi we could see a lovely circular temple.... we asked and found it was part of the Delphi site. The tickets were included in the one for the main site. We were told a lot of people miss the lower temple: Temple of Athena. The entrance was across the road. We walked down the winding path until we came to the temple... It was elegant and beautiful. It dated from the 4th and 5th century BC. Three of the columns were restored.&nb...

Santorini is what was left from a massive volcano exlosion 3700 years ago (about 1700 bc). It was a big round island (that was the first name of it: Strogili, means round) and now is almost a half-moon shape island made of lava. The capital of the island is Fira...

We decided to drive to Mycenea. We got lost on the way. It is so weird to be lost and not even be able to read the signs to find yourself. We drove and drove then we came to a spot in the road where the water was over the road about 2 feet deep... that was it ....We turned around and headed back the way we came... We finally realized we started out the wrong exit from town & retraced our steps to the middle of town to start out again....

The most interesting island of Greece. Typical and traditional Island with a great nature and friendly people. The island of the mastic and her beautifull villages, like Pyrgi, Mesta, Olymbi and Vessa. I visit Chios now for seven years and have many friends on the island. Take a look at the pictures and i'm sure i will see you on Chios. But please don't come at the same time, because now you can still hear the silence.

The next morning David and Robert went down to the Ferry again...... The ticket agents were optimist and sold them tickets with assurances that they would depart later that morning.... We got our packs (backpack suitcases) and went to the docks.... We stood and stood with about 1000 people...... The longer we stood the more it seemed it might not be the date for departing.....
