Great Yarmouth Overview

Great Yarmouth is a coastal town in Norfolk, England. It has a rich history from the herring industry and there are a few museums dedicated to this.
It is has a large residential area and a medium sized town which has 2 shopping centres. Market gates (the larger of the two) and Victoria Arcade. The town boasts alot of summer trade as it is a seasonal town. It has a long beach which connects to local areas Caister and Gorleston. The seafront is over a mile long and has two theme parks (Joyland and Pleasure Beach) both with a modest amount of rides. The seafront also holds a large number of arcades and has lots of tourist shops selling souvenirs. It has a small 5 screen cinema (called the Hollywood Cinema). The town has lots of bowls tournaments during the summer.
There are a large number of guest houses/b & bs and hotels in the area, prices and quality all varying. Great Yarmouth also has a race course which has dog, horse and stockcar banger racing. It has two piers (Wellington and Brittania). The Wellington has now been transformed into an arcade with a bowling alley at the back. The Brittania however, has shows ranging from comedians to tribute acts. This pier too has arcades.
The town also has a market (usually a wednesday and friday) which sells various goods from household products to clothing. There is also a large number of chip stalls within the market place.
During the winter months most places are closed or are only open at limited times, at these times unemployment also goes up as most seasonal jobs come to an end at winter.
Over the last few years, Great Yarmouth has undergone a few changes. The seafront promenade has undergone huge works and has been modernised, and various other places such as the new harbour and the park.
