History, Culture, Sculpture & Commerce - Tang Dynasty Style Nov 23, 2014
The Great Tang All Day Mall (Da Tang Bu Ye Cheng) is the centerpiece of the cultural and commercial center of Xi'an. It is 1500 m long (north to south) along Yanta South Road running from Xuanzang Square at the Big Wild Goose Pagoda to the Tang Dynasy Relic Walls, and 480 m wide (east to west) from Ci'en East Road to Ci'en West Road. It is boasted to be the 'largest and longest pedestrian street of tourist landscape and cultural mall in Asia'. With such a large area, it is not possible to visit everything here.

It's all a tribute to the Great Tang Dynasty culture and has architectural style of that era including sculpture 9 groups devoted to great leaders, monks, artists, writers, poets, scientists and mathematicians of the Tang Dynasty (618-970 AD) including the famous poets and scholars such as Li Bai, Du Fu, Wang Wei, and Han Yu, calligrapher Huai Su, and the ‘King of Chinese Medicine’ - Sun Simiao. Some of the main cultural and artistic buildings include: Xi’an Grand Theatre, Xi’an Concert Hall, Shaanxi Art Gallery and the Qujiang Cinema. Mixed around the area there are shopping, food and recreational establishments. All in all, one can think of it as a vast cultural center and shopping mall with emphasis on Tang Dynasty style.

The whole place, encompassing about 6 city blocks cost an estimated 3 billion RMB (~$500 million USD)to build up and renovate the area. It's the pride of the city of Xi'an today so worth the investment I would say. Don't try to see it all, but take time to enjoy parts of it and appreciate the culture of the Great Tang Dynasty in history, culture, sculpture and commerce, including shopping and dining.

@Paul - Thanks, and it's good to know my efforts are appreciated in such ways...
@Bill - The place does have a nice feel to it in integrating the history, culture, sculpture and commerce, as my headline indicates, blending it all together in harmony.

I like the mix of cultural heritage and contemporary shopping and dining, that they are not mutually exclusive.
