Good Canadian Bar with familiar North American feel May 07, 2010
The Great Canadian is a good bar located about a block away from Place St. Michel. They offer a full bar, with beer by the pint or bottle, and decent menu. I generally get pulled to this bar for a few reasons. As a traveling American, its nice to get to a bar with more North American atmostphere from time to time. The menu is filled with back home staples; burgers wtih fries, quesadillas, etc. They also serve brunch on the weekends with pancakes, bacon, eggs and all the usual suspects. Moreover, the bartenders are all very friendly and attentive. I also enjoy this bar as a place to watch North American sports. While there are a lot of bars in Paris that show sports, most of them are geared toward football or other popular european sports. Whats nice about TGC is you have a better chance of seeing hockey, basketball, and others. Keep in mind though this is a Canadian place so they usually default to hockey. However, when there are big football games on, recently the semi-finals for the Champions league, all the tv screens show the match. If you have a question about what games may be playing either give them a call or stop by and ask, someone will let you know whats coming up and if you can watch it. Remember, you're 6 hours ahead in Paris so you can't watch every game and they may not also show them over here. Bummer, but thats what it is.

So if you are looking for a good friendly place that feels familiar stop by The Great Canadian. Good bar, nice people.
