World Class Monument Jan 04, 2011
Massive, impressive mosque right on the shoreline of Casa. I've been told that it is the largest in Africa.

The building is really, really big. Very ornate and colourful mosaics and arches. The minaret itself is deceptively tall and is also beautifully decorated in a green motif.

There are also some pretty out-buildings across the massive plaza surrounding it and some gardens too.

Unfortunately, I didn't have time for a tour inside, but the outside was plenty enough worth the cost of the taxi ride over. One could easily spend an hour just walking around it trying to fit the *entire* structure into 1 photo shot...But it is very difficult. Very quiet, calm and peaceful feeling, even with the crowds of people and pigeons around. Stick around long enough to hear the Call to Prayer...

A "Must See" if in Casa!

Magnificent May 05, 2011
Highly recommend you visit this beautiful building. The architecture is breathtaking. Also the mausoleum of the King. The beaches in Casablanca aren't the cleanest (litter) but they are spacious and relaxing.

Stunning mosque in Casablanca Nov 21, 2010
Forget the film, this mosque has to be the most amazing thing in Casablanca. The city is huge, industrial and economically focused, and yet this mosque stands out like some artistic gem.

The mosque is the largest in Morocco and within the top 5 biggest mosques on earth. An impressive amount of marble and granite is on display, and the fountains are heavily decorated with beautiful tiles. The mosque was constructed on land reclaimed from the Atlantic, and this is a lovely allusion to the Koran which refers to Allah's throne being built on water.

The mosque can be visited at designated times throughout the day, and tickets are available for 120 dirhams (60 dirhams for students).

The mosque at night is just impressive as it is in the day, and I strongly recommend you visit this iconic building if you are in Casa.

Hassan II mosque Dec 27, 2010
The Hassan II mosque is the biggest mosque in Morocco and one of the few Muslim buildings which are open to non-Muslims in the country. The mosque is built on reclaimed land in the Atlantic Ocean and can be seen from far away around Casablanca.

Most of the materials to build the mosque is from different places in Morocco - only the marble to some of the columns inside the mosque had to be imported from Italy.

You can join in on of the frequent one hour tours of the mosque to see the interior of the mosque - if you are not able to be there during the opening hours you can still enjoy the mosque from the outside. During the evening hours you may still be able to at least go down and see the hammam which is part of the mosque complex - I went to the mosque at night to see it with the lights on - during this visit one of the guards kept telling me I could go down and see the hammam if I wanted to - he clearly wanted a little tip for his effort.

It is well worth to go to the mosque and see it with the lights on at night time. Unfortunately they seem to turn off the light pretty early in the night so you should get there before 8 if you want to see the mosque with all the lights.

If you want a better perspective of the mosque you could walk a bit along the coast to see the mosque from the ocean.
