Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument Vacation Guide
Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument is a large park located in southern Utah. This region is known for it's colorful and unusual sandstone rock formations. These formations include slot canyons; steep, narrow passageways carved through thousands of years of violent flash floods.
Before heading into back country you should always register in a ranger station and check on current conditions. Thunderstorms are common during the summer which can trigger very sudden and deadly flash flooding particularly in the slot canyons.
Lake Powell is nearby. Swimming and boating is permitted at the lake. This man made lake was created by the controversial Glen Canyon Dam that dams the Colorado River.
