we enjoyed the resort Aug 15, 2015
Grand Sierra is grand! You could get easily lost if you do not remember the way to your room.

I supposed it’s a hotel that started operating since the mid-'70s. The hallways leading to the hotel rooms smelled moldy. However, once inside the room; the aura is totally different. Obviously, a major make-over was done there.

We reserved a room with two queen-size beds. I love the fluffy comforters.

The entire room is clean including the carpet and the bathroom. The bathroom is HUGE, but I do not have photos to show how spacious it was.

Wi-Fi is free and available in all areas of the hotel.

The room provided us a nice view of the Reno skyline.

Grand Sierra is also a venue for casino gaming. Gambling is not our cup of tea for relaxation, so we did not go in there.

Restaurants found on the ground floor offers a variety of cuisines and dining styles. We did dine at one of the buffet restaurants.

What we enjoyed so much from our stay at Grand Sierra was the time spent in the swimming pools and spa hot tubs! We had a blast.

GSR exceeded my expectations Oct 12, 2014
I was in Reno for a conference at the Grand Sierra Resort and lodging was part of the package. This GSR is located near the airport and shuttle service is available. This property has many activities one can partake in, gambling, miniature golf, go-carts, driving range, and some sort of bungee/freefall thing that looks pretty scary.

When we arrived we learned that our room was not clean and it would be 45 minutes before it was ready. We were asked to go “enjoy” ourselves until the room was clean and that a notification text would be sent. 1.5 hrs later I had to call and learned the room was ready, no text was ever sent. This was a bit annoying as we were pretty tired from our travel.

There are three options at the Grand Sierra: 1. The GSR hotel. 2. The Summit at GSR. & 3. The Summit Concierge. We stayed at the Summit, which are the mid-level floors of the hotel, and glad we did. Co-workers that were staying in the GSR hotel below reported that the rooms were not very nice, smelled of smoke etc. This was not the case for our room.

The room came with a sofa, Chair, desk, flat screen TV, & Internet. The king size bed was comfortable and the bathroom was marble with a large walk in shower, but no tub. Most importantly, the room did not reek of cigarette smoke.

There are several dining and lounge options on this property, we tried the Grand Café for a late dinner. It was typical casino food, nothing special to report. My suggestion is to get out and explore the dining options in the Reno/Sparks area.

I have stayed at a couple of the resort/casinos in the Reno area, and this is one of the nicer options.

Away from downtown but still a good place May 10, 2010
I have written a review on this hotel previously, about two years ago, but I feel that an updated review is better that leaving an old one up to give outdated information.

When it was first built this was a very upscale resort hotel, casino and shopping/entertainment facility. It has changed hands a few times over the years and now for the last few years has been known as the Grand Sierra Resort. Each time the level has dropped a tad. Now it has become an average hotel/casino in Reno. The hotel rates are fairly low and if you are a previous guest and sign up, they will send very good specials for you to use. They still have almost all of the entertainment items, from bowling alley to a lake where you can hit golf balls to an island, and a huge arcade, even a theater. There are many shops to buy clothing, art, and jewelry. The restaurants have changed but still cover everything from fairly inexpensive to very expensive.

The casino seems to change with the times too. Newer slots, and lots of them. Still several tables for poker, Blackjack and Roulette, and a fairly large sports book area.

The rooms are still fairly well maintained and continue to be clean and large.

The only downside here is the parking lots, which are so far away that you are almost required to use the valet service.

We use this hotel pretty regularly since we have a son who lives in Sparks. I won't ask why you don't want to go back. Hope you didn't lose too much! :D

Our "Old Standby" in Reno May 10, 2010
This is one of our “old standby” hotels in Reno, Nevada. We have stayed here many times and always had good reviews about it. I don’t mind updating my reviews of this hotel because as time goes by, things change, and I want to make sure I am giving up-to-date information. Originally built back and opened in 1978 this huge 2000 room, 26 story facility has continued to maintain its look and feel. Yes, it has dropped ever so slightly from its original very upscale look but still holds to the appealing modern look it has always had. The many restaurants still serve very good food and the shops still sell a myriad of slightly upscale or unique gifts. There is a movie theatre, bowling alley, and a game area for the kids that includes a large laser tag area. They also continue to have wonderful entertainment. The super sized casino continues to trend toward new slots and plenty of them, with lots of Blackjack, Roulette tables, and a good sized sports book.

The rates for rooms seem to have dropped a little, although if you sign up with them you will get some amazing low cost offers.

Our room again this visit is clean, large, and in very good maintenance. Our room had two queen sized beds that must have been fairly new, firm yet quite comfortable, two easy chairs and a round table for reading or eating. There was also another desk for writing or internet use, a large TV and game console.

The bathroom was quite large with plenty of counter space, included plenty of fresh clean towels and Kleenex, a hair dryer, soaps, conditioners, and shampoos, an ice bucket and plastic glasses.

The parking lot is truly huge surrounding the entire hotel complex and includes a special area in the back for RVs for those who wish to just park there. If you are not in the mood to walk from the lot, they offer a very friendly and generally fast valet service which helps make check in and out very easy.

A nice place to stay in Reno Sep 21, 2008
This hotel has changed so much from when it was first built, but today it retains so much of the great things that made it special. Beside being a large hotel and casino with several restaurants, it also has a pool, spa, gym, and even a golf driving range like no other, with a green out in the middle of a lake. Also, downstairs are lots of shops, movie theater, bowling alley, and several other recreational areas and a huge children’s arcade and video arcade. The casino is smaller than it used to be but still has enough machines and tables to please most people. The rooms seem to be updated and refurnished every couple of years. Being a card holding member we get a special rate from time to time which keeps the cost down.

Only drawback is the parking for Handicapped is so far away if you don't use valet.

affordable and friendly Sep 05, 2008
So it was cheaper to stay at this resort during the weekdays than it was during the weekend.

The resort offers a spa, gym, pool, sauna, etc. You can use these facilities for about $10 a day. I was highly disappointed when I realized that I had to pay a fee to use the jacuzzi. Usually casino/hotels allow guests to use the pool AND jacuzzi at no extra charge. You can use the pool at this hotel for free, but you do have to pay the $10 to access the jacuzzi and gym. However, they do close at either 7 or 8 pm - depending what day of the week.

It's a great place to stay for families or people travelling with children since they offer various recreational activities.

These include a cinema, bowling alley, 40,000 square ft video arcade, miniature golf, and even a type of hang-gliding/bungee jumping activity.

The maid was really nice and friendly even though her english wasn't that great. She cleaned the room up pretty fast and was very accommodating (I requested for extra towels, blankets, and pillows!).

The other thing that I didn't like was that we were set up on the 2nd floor and our view was of the outside wall of the building next to us. Plus we had a lot of noisy neighbors... it made me feel like we were on the "party floor" because all I saw were people in their 20's.

The pool is downstairs in the Arcade level and is outdoors. Make sure you bring your room key with you because it's located in an enclosed area and you need to insert your key to get in. The pool size is average. There are cabanas around the pool. It is equipped with a full bar. There's also an area with sand where you can play volleyball.

The golf range is also located downstairs outside to the left. The movie theater is downstairs and they feature about 4 movies. The movie fee is $3.00. The movies they feature have usually been released for about 4 weeks already or so.

A few years back this giant casino, hotel, and stores changed hands from Hilton, and prior to that it was Bally’s. Now known as Grand Sierra Resort it has changed many things in order to remain a top of the line resort casino. Of course the top floors are no longer hotel rooms, but time-share condos. Downstairs the colors have changed and are much more subdued. They have added a large wine tasting area and changed the casino to include all of the newest and most digital technologies to take your money. The restaurants, and there are several including a wonderful buffet, continue to serve very good food, and the lower level stores sell the highest priced and upscale items you are likely to find in all of Reno. They have a theater, bowling alley, and fun zone in the lower level also. I do enjoy staying here, but use special offers to keep rates down where I am comfortable.
