Grand Monument to Kim Il Sung Pyongyang Reviews
Statue to honour the Great Leader Kim Il Sung Apr 30, 2010
Aside of your opinion about Kim Il Sung, a visit to his statue is, besides mandatory, also something you must see.
The details and the artwork in the statue are really great, especially the statues of the figures that are placed by the flags that are on either side of the Great Leader. It overlooks Pyongyang
Those responsible for making them, are true artists. The details in those life-size bronse statues of soldiers, men, women and children are amazing.
The visit is free, but it is sort of required to place flowers at the feet of the 20 meters high statue and pay respect. The tourguide of the group I was with laid flowers on behalf of us.
While I was there, I witnessed a group of soldiers, as well several groups of men & women, school children and wedding couples who laid flowers and bowed to Kim Il Sung. And everyone was dressed very formal.
A reminder to everyone who will visit the statue, that decent clothing is expected.
Part of the list What to see and do in North Korea
