Wonderful Central Hotel Aug 22, 2011
Given that we were only going to be staying for three nights and, therefore, only having two full days in Prague we wanted a hotel that was pretty central to all sights.
After some research over the net we decided that we would stay in the Stare Mesto area of the city ie The Old Town. Having had a look at a few hotels in the area we decided to opt for the Grand Majestic Plaza due to the number of good reviews the hotel had received. The Grand Majestic Plaza is classed as a 4* hotel and I would say that it is well worth this grading. The twin room cost us 230 pounds for the three nights with breakfast included. The hotel itself is set just off a large square down a small side street. We encountered no traffic noise during our stay. On arrival we found the reception area to be extremely clean with a beautiful fountain as the main centre piece. We were greeted by a friendly receptionist who dealt with us quickly. We were given two forms to complete and were asked to provide one credit card number which they would keep until our departure. Given that niether of us had card details on us we were asked for a deposit of 50 euros or 1000 CZK koruna. We were given a room on the fourth floor and directed to one of the four lifts. The room The room was smaller than expected but adequate for our needs. We had, however, booked a twin room but on arrival the room was set out as a double. After a quick visit back to reception the receptionist sent up a maid immediately to rectify the situation. In addition to the twin beds there was a large desk/cabinet which housed a small fridge and the mini bar (though this was quite expensive.) There was one wardrobe with limited shelf space due to the fact that there was a complimentary safe on one shelf and a tray with a kettle and complimentary tea/coffee on another. There was also a complimentary sewing kit and information on laundry services. However, given that we were only staying a few nights there was ample room, this may not have been the case if our duration had been longer. The bathroom was immaculate with a bath and shower. The shower was wonderful, very powerful, not like the average showers that you get abroad that more or less trickle water out of the shower head. Plenty of shelf space both above the sink and toilet area. Towels were changed on a daily basis and complimentary toiletries were also available. Our view from the room was a simple courtyard overlooking other rooms. The air conditioning could be left on during the whole day just by leaving the card in the socket. Highly advisable given that during our stay the temperatures had soared. However, on a night when trying to sleep the air conditioning unit was quite noisy. Breakfast Breakfast is served from 6am-11am daily. We tended to arrive in the restaurant for about 9am. There are many choices available, from cereals, breads, jams, fresh fruit, yoghurt, cheese, ham, cakes, eggs, bacon, beans and sausages so something for everyone really. Tea, coffee and fresh fruit juices are also readily available. The kitchen staff are constantly checking the food situation so nothing runs out. The only downside to the restaurant is the fact that the dining area is set out more like a canteen with numerous tables and chairs laid out next to each other. So not so good if you want to be sat on your own in a quiet corner, though there was a few tables where this was possible if so desired. All in all the hotel and staff were wonderful and I would highly recommend this hotel to family and friends in the future.
