A wee bit of Irish in Mongolia May 28, 2009
Made an evening stop at the Grand Khaan Irish Pub while in Ulaanbaatar.

The Pub serves a variety of import beers and pub food fare. May be one of the few places in UB where you could find a salad on the menu. As expected from imported food and drink it is a bit pricier than local fare. But you can actually find a pint of Guinness in Mongolia if you desire. If you want to keep the prices down go with the local Chinggis Beer.

There was a mix of locals and foreigners in the pub (seemed more expatriates working in UB than tourists though). It was quite loud with music and multiple TV's in the background and a sheen of hazy smoke filled the air.

Definitely a fun place to hang out for the evening but nothing that is extraordinary.

Well I haven't had the chance yet for a Guinness in Ireland so I will have to be satisfied with it in the US for now.

As for on the road, I enjoy sampling the local brews - hit or miss though they may be. At least its easier on the wallet.

Well, there's a Mongolian Grill in Dublin so I guess there should be an Irish Pub in Ulan Bator.

I never drink Guinness outside of Ireland - and even in Ireland, some pubs are known to serve a better pint than others.
