Nice Hotel on Union Square Dec 21, 2016
On a recent leisure trip to San Francisco, I stayed at the Grand Hyatt San Francisco on Union Square. My first impression of the hotel was indifferent based on the odd system they have there for getting their guests checked in. There is no front desk, but rather small kiosks that a hotel employee greets you and enters you into the computer. These employees are dressed casually and were wearing sneakers. I'm not complaining necessarily, but I normally expect the nicer hotels to have a more formal presentation in the lobby. Beyond this, the hotel was clean, safe, and the amenities were sufficient, specifically the gym and the executive level lounge. Although the location was superb for a business traveler, I would not recommend staying here for tourism. I found that most of the best spots in San Fran were located far down on the Embarcadero and along Fisherman's Wharf and there were plenty of nice hotel options down there that would have saved me quite a bit in Uber bills. However, the hotel is close to China Town, and the shopping and financial districts. If I ever travel to San Fran for business, then I would consider staying here again - but for a leisurely weekend of fun in the City, I would find an alternate location.

Good affordable upper-class Hotel Jun 17, 2010
On my 3rd stay in San Francisco I decided to stay at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, which is located just above the Union Square...

The location is almost perfect...

you're steps away from the central union square.. which means pretty close to most bars and restaurants, the biggest mall in san francisco, the cable car station on powell street...asmm.

+ Big Hotel

+ Big lobby with a friendly staff

+ around 6 elevators (or 3...can't remember)

but def. more than in my previous hotels in sf

+ our room was pretty big

+ full equipped gym (threadmills, bikes, weights, machines, steppers...)

+ starbucks across the street

+ good location

+ affordable rates!

+ + + sky bar on the highest floor, where you can enjoy breakfast at its fullest :)

- no free wifi

- no partying, only few younger people

This was the BEST experience in a SF hotel so far..

Great location but not worth the full price. Sep 07, 2008
Great location in union district but I would not have stayed here if I hadn't booked on Priceline and gotten an amazing price. There was no pool or jacuzzi though. The desk staff were not very helpful when I asked them different questions. For example, when I was speaking with the room reservation staff, I asked them what type of room they would recommend, either "city view" or "water view". She would not help me with the description and very much sounded like I was wasting her time. I picked "city view" and that turned out to be a big waste. If she would have told me that she was booking me for a "west city view" room, one that faced a giant building and in which you could see nothing else, I would have went with the "water view". Also, when we asked the front desk how to get to the mission district, he told us to get on the Muni and it should have been the BART. If he really didn't know, he shouldn't have told us, also he should know the general directions to the different districts since he is at the front desk and I'm sure we couldn't have been the only ones who ever asked how to get somewhere. Also, once we figured it out, it is really simple and it shouldn't have been hard for him to know simple areas since he lived there. Overall, I liked the price we paid at Priceline, but I would never book it willingly and pay the price they want. There are other hotels in the same area that I'm sure are better. Oh, and unless you want to pay $55 per day for their parking, leave your bags and park yourself down the street in the garage for about $35 total for a weekend.

I do enjoy the location. It is close to a BART station, right off Union Square, close to Market street, close to Chinatown. It is on Stockton and Sutter and the room that I had had a GREAT view of Union Square. The room I had was pretty big and spacious. The service overall was pretty good. My only gripe, which is quite a big one, is that the bed was horrid! There were huge indentations on both sides of the bed and unfortunately, because I came during a busy weekend, I could not get another room. I could not sleep. But for that, I would give this hotel a better review.
