Grand Hotel Nastro Azzurro & Occhio Marino Resort Piano di Sorrento Reviews
Not bad, but not for us. May 29, 2011
Reviews were good for this hotel but we were a little disappointed.
Fist impressions were good but as the days went on, we came to the conclusion that although breakfast and lunch were OK the evening meals were below average for a 4* hotel.Mainly because they were always cold by the time we got them. A la Carte restaurant food was poor a so don't bother paying extra for it.£8 for risottoo starter which arrived on a cold plate so was instantly cold to eat and £16 for a small piece of fish and nothing else, no veg, nothing !
The 3 rooms we booked were nice but small, furnished well none had a balcony and two had no view. The walls are very very thin and we could hear the smallest noise from adjoining rooms and from the other end of the hallway due to laminated flooring throughout the hotel. We resorted to taking our shoes off so as not to wake other guests, unfortunately not everyone so considerate.
The bar staff turn all the lights out at 11.50 so you have to sit in the dark if you want to stay up any later. We were unable to purchase a drink as all the staff disappeared at midnight.
The staff were very friendly but some did struggle to understand some basic requests. They mislaid our passports, bathrobes were missing and never replaced so bit tricky to use the spa.
The pool was small but had a lovely view. Lots of sunbeds head to toe which was overlooked by the lunchtime eating area.Nice quiet gardens with large beds where most of the guests who's average age was 60+ read books or slept. Three hot tubs but the water was never hot enough. Another popular place for people to sleep was the entrance to the hotel where there was a large terrace with wonderful views The hotel is on top of a cliff so is much cooler than in town . You can get a shuttle bus into Sorrento which you have to organise the day before. This was very handy as there really wasn't anything to do in the hotel if the weather was poor apart from read, sleep or play bingo. We had organised several excursions which is a must while you are there.
We loved Sorrento but wouldn't stay at this hotel again, it was just too far away from anything and everything had to be organised if you wanted to get out and about. An impromptu stroll to a local bar etc.was out of the question.
Remember , this hotel has many steps and steep slopes which could be a problem for some people.
