Grand Hotel Melbourne - A Member of the MGallery Collection Reviews
A fixer upper! Aug 18, 2010
We arrived at this hotel very late in the day. Considering the star rating of this hotel, it was disappointing to have to get our own baggage out of the taxi and inside. The reception area was 3 desks with computers on them. We checked in and they did ask us if we needed help to the room but we said no. We got in the lift and then when we got out we had to walk a mile to our room. The hotel is huge!!!
The corridors are soooooooo long.
Okay, that's fine, we found our room! We had got this room for $110 (Aus) and it was meant to be $520? It was on 2 levels and could have been nice but not $520 worth! We walked into the living area. Kitchen, lounge. The kitchen seemed okay but the flooring was lifting. The sofa was ripped and fraying. As it was a 2 level appartment, the bedroom and bathroom was upstairs on the mezzanine level. The bedroom did not have a full wall, it was like a balcony and you could look down into the lounge area. That isn't a problem really but the window was the problem. The window started near the ceiling but did not go right down. This meant you could not see out of it unless you were really tall or were standing in the bedroom area. The view was another building and the trains.
Okay, we didn't pay a lot so we were happy to accept this. However when we were going to go to bed, we thought we had better close the curtains. Well that didn't work. They wouldn't close and were not in the best condition.
I was going to call some one as although it wasn't really a privacy issue, we didn't want the sunshine first thing in the morning hitting us in the face. We decided not to complain and just put up with it but proberbly wouldn't stay there again unless it was really cheap again.
They had valet parking and there is a restaurant there too. We didn't use either but did spend some time in the bar. The hotel also has a swimming pool and gym. The hotel is close to the casino and public transport.
They did store our baggage for us after we checked out in the morning as we weren't flying out til the evening.
No one asked us if our stay was satisfactory.
