Grand Hotel Amstelveen Reviews
Nice hotel. Bad location for visiting Amsterdam Sep 11, 2009
I ended up staying at the Grand Amstelveen due to a bit of confusing with a tour group my travel agent used. Compared to some of the places I had stayed in during my trip the Grand Amstelveen was a nice place. The biggest problem for me was that it was about a 35 minute ride via the metro trams to get here. It is also a 10-15 minute walk from the metro station to the hotel.
I don't know how they decided to number the rooms. I walked up the stairs to the 1st Floor and was in Room 100. The first rooms closest to the elevator were 101 and 102. Room 100 was all the way at the end of the hall. I typically expect 100 to come before 101 and 102, but maybe I'm just crazy.
Anyway, the room was spacious. I would call the bed a double, but it's just 2 single beds side by side. The bathroom was separated into a small toilet area and a much larger shower/bath/vanity area. Very nicely done, I thought.
This place required you to pay for WiFi, which always bugs me. It had a relatively good breakfast that had various pastries, cereals, fruits, and some fried eggs.
Very nice place. Very far from Amsterdam. Too expensive for the location. WiFi should be free.

Grand Hotel Amstelveen Overview
Located in a suburb of Amsterdam and only 10 mins from Schiphol airport, this hotel is surrounded by green spaces and gives easy access to Amsterdam and the rest of Holland. It is also located right next door to the sport and party centre "De Kegel" which offers many recreational facilities.
This hotel is suitable for all types of travelers although some may find it hard to get around if they do not have their own transport. However, for group business, this hotel definitely offers value. . 01/07/08jg.
The building is a low rise, modern style block without any distinguishing features.
All the bedrooms are large in size and are decorated in beechwood red. They are very spacious and in very good condition. All the bathrooms have a separate bath and shower and are in pristine condition with two double sinks in black finish, a white floor and wall tiles, and a separate toilet.
Located on the ground floor, this is where breakfast is served. The buffet is in the centre of the room and the decor is slightly dated with florals and pale green wicker chairs. Located across from the hotel, 500m away in the party centre there are numerous restaurants where one can have lunch or dinner in a cosy, typically Dutch atmosphere and where one can also have a gastronomic meal.
The medium sized lobby is more stylish with marble flooring, large plants, and an unusual chandelier. There is also a balcony on the first floor which overlooks this area. The reception desk is situated to the right hand side and leads to a cosy corner with sofas and coffee tables, as well as to other public areas.
1 minute walk to the nearest bus stop, 10 kms to the nearest airport (schiphol), 10 minute walk to the nearest metro station (poortwachter amstelveen), 15 km to the nearest fair site (rai), 20 km to the nearest station (schiphol), 20 kms to city centre.
